Kingsbury honed his sustainability expertise during a long career at the Dow Chemical in a variety of roles including Global Plastics Sustainability Leader. Kingsbury is a recognized expert in supply chain sustainability, alternative assessments, tools to track improvements, life cycle thinking, environmental and societal issues associated with plastics and chemicals. He uses his wide-ranging knowledge of the whole supply chain, from raw material extraction to manufacturing, to final use, recycling and disposal, to distill complex messages into understandable language. He has decades of experience in all aspects of corporate and product sustainability, having worked with value chains in diverse markets including: packaging, automotive, toys, building products, apparel & footwear, electronics, and personal care products.
Not satisfied to work solely in a corporate environment, Kingsbury served between 2007 and 2012 as an Executive in Residence at UC Berkeley on loan from Dow. In his UC Berkeley role, Kingsbury led the multidisciplinary Sustainable Products & Solution Program. This program enhanced sustainability related education and research throughout campus, thereby developing the next generation of sustainably minded leaders. Kingsbury also taught a variety of graduate level courses on sustainability. During this same period, in his role at Dow, he directed Dow’s Breakthrough to World Challenges 2015 Corporate Sustainability Goal and led Dow’s global engagement with The Sustainability Consortium (sustainabilityconsortium.org).
He also led a group responsible for plastics sustainability activities and industry affairs globally. He served as the key link between the multi-billion dollar plastics portion of Dow (Dow is the world’s largest plastics producer) and the corporate reputation and sustainability efforts.
He lives in Northern California with his wife and enjoys travel, scuba diving and photography.
