How the forestry sector can add $120 billion to global GDP

May 9, 2017

No one predicted the rapid growth of renewables— from 31 GW to 318 GW— within 13 years, said Justin Adams, managing director of The Nature Conservancy. And we are about to experience a sharp increase in the value of the agriculture and forestry sector.

"We are on the cusp of how we can work with the forestry and agriculture sectors, and many other sectors that are dependent on [them], to unlock the rapid growth and same commercial opportunity that came from renewables in the last 20 years," he said.

Trees are nature's "oldest climate technology," providing carbon capture and storage services along with a "dizzying array of products that we take for granted." Forestry employs 14 million people and adds $120 billion to global GDP. Now, businesses have an unprecedented opportunity to work forestry conservation into their business plans.
