Ron Whitmore
Ron Whitmore is the Deputy Director of the Department of Development and Research (R&D) for the County of Hawaii. R&D houses the County’s research, energy, and economic development programs and coordinates inter-agency sustainable development initiatives. Ron came to R&D after nine years in the County Planning Department, where he served as the senior long-range planner. He has worked in community and economic development for 25 years – as a Peace Corps volunteer, a scholar, the CEO of a nonprofit community organization, a small business owner, and a public servant. A practitioner-scholar at heart, Ron has a PhD in Community Sustainability from Michigan State University.
